Since 2015, the primary goal of SKYe2 Farm has been to develop a diverse, experimental farm that follows organic permaculture practices. Its topography is a high mountain bald with gentle sloping fields and panoramic long-range mountain views. The elevation is over 4000' and makes the property the most diverse, high country farm on the East Coast. Previously, the land was used as a Christmas tree farm. Fraser fir trees, numbering 300-400, still remain and are scattered throughout the wildflower-covered meadows.
Beginning in 2016, dozens of new plants have been added to the landscape, and new plantings continue this season. Tree species include apple, pear, walnut, chestnut, cherry, pawpaw, pecan, almond and willow. Perennials include lavender, mints, raspberries, mushrooms, blueberries, horseradish, turmeric, asparagus, blackberries, forsythia and flowers of every variety. Naturally growing species include beech, fir and elderberry trees, wild strawberries and blackberries, may apple, cohosh and the Monarch butterfly’s favorite, milkweed. Three honeybee hives have been added too.

Carter: The Silent Cartographer
Carter Harvey is an Appalachian State University Alumni and outdoors enthusiast. Carter used his GSI experience to create the map of Skye Farm. Carter has worked seasonally at Skye Farm for the last 5 years. At first, Carter may appear quiet and reserved, but once you get to know him, you find that he is the life of the party. You will likely find Carter in a hacky sack circle at the Marigolden Music and Arts Festival.
Charles: Co-Founder
Charles King is also an App State alumnus. Charles has a deep understanding of agriculture and handles the day-to-day operations of Skye Farm. Charles is also an outdoors enthusiast; he started whitewater kayaking as a kid in the Bryson City area and has traveled the world on big river missions. Charles is a fan of deep bass and wubby wubs. Charles can also likely be found in the hacky sack circle at the MMA Festival
Rueben: Co-Founder
Also an App State Alum, Rueben Urdiales has a degree in recreation management. Using this degree, he helps with coordinating and planning between DJs, sound engineers, volunteers, vendors, and much more. Rueben fell in love with whitewater in high school while on a family rafting trip in the Appalachian Mountains. Rueben aims to bring the spirit of PLUR from big-name festivals to the small mountains of Western North Carolina.
Jared: Lasers!!
Jared Sand is a DJ by the name of Mountain Sound Systems based out of the Johnson City, Tennessee area. Jared is a wizard when it comes to light production and will orchestrate lasers for the MMA Festival. Jared is also an advocate of the flow arts and is a talented juggler.
Rob: Splat Daddy
Robert Cormier, aka Splat Daddy, is a visual artist who makes liquid projections. Rob will be doing Splat Daddy projections for the MMA Festival. Rob is also known for his signature shirts; he was responsible for making the first run of Official MMA Festival shirts.
Austin: Big Sound Guy
Austin Russell is a local DJ who goes by the stage name Aspexx. Austin has helped with many of the Marigolden team pop-up events by providing the sound system and DJing equipment. Austin loves to make music that gets the people moving. Austin was not much of a hacky sacker until he joined the Marigolden team; now you can also likely find him in the hack circle at the MMA Festival.
